Played Doom 3 today.

Actually I just watched another guy play it.

Lemme back up. About a month ago I ordered two new machines for CivilGrrl --fully loaded Dell 3.6 Ghz machines with 1 gig of memory and Serial ATA drives and RAID controllers and ridiculously overpowered PCI-express graphics cards. Shelly's still crunching on one of her products and can't switch machines in midstream, so I brought one of the boxes to the contract workplace, as the laptop I'm using for the Project That Cannot Be Named is just fine for Java but takes forever to launch the Flash environment.

As you can imagine, as soon as word got around that I had such a machine with me, one of 'em showed up with Doom 3 to run on it. He's got one of those really cool Toshiba 17" laptops, but even that thing didn't have the horsepower to run the game well.

Thankfully, the aforementioned beast-of-a-desktop ran Doom 3 just fine. I was actually quite impressed by the game's polish, especially how the "training level" that is level-one didn't really look like a training level but just a buncha guys checking you in and giving you pieces of a background story. Quite well done.

I was pretty impressed with it, but I didn't bother playing. Those games just don't hold any shine for me.

In any case, it's quite a cool game. Good job guys!
