Hey, I'm here

Apologies for the lack of updates. End of year stuff, you know. Had a couple of appointments and went to a conference (Autodesk University in Las Vegas) that I unfortunately could not really cover for any game development press.

Again, I'm available on most social networks (most specifically, Twitter and Facebook) if you feel the need to live vicariously through me.

But I'm back and making not much progress on new game development. So as a matter of penance, I'll post something, anything, game development related. In this case, it's my ad in Games magazine. I've been running this for over a year now. It does seem to get me a little exposure. At least I've noticed that my hit-count gets a bump whenever the new issue hits the shelves.

Yeah, it's just a little cheap thing, but I do get a minor ego-rush to know that I can always find a mention of myself on the shelves at Barnes & Noble every month.

And speaking of Barnes & Noble, the project-thats-name-cannot-be-spoken is wrapping up. Far as I know, it's still scheduled to appear in mid-January (changed from November, but that's not my or Drew's fault). There'll be more to talk about next month. And there'll be more to show off. And there'll be cross-promotion. And I'll most certainly have some kind of silly mini-contest giveaway that's just a thinly-veiled attempt to grab some more eyeballs and/or twitter followers.

Until then you'll just have to speculate about what this super-secret project about which I cannot speak is.

Just remember. Whatever you do, though, don't type "gamedev.net" into Amazon's search field. If you did that, you'd find out what it is that I'm under strict contractual obligation not to speak of.

On that note, I can't believe that the publisher accepted my book dedications without question :)

Oh, and somebody snapped a picture of my wife presenting George Hrab with his groupie-socks, posting it to Flickr here. It also got a mention in George's podcast, so Shelly's now really on the hook to knit Phil Plait a pair of socks.

She also wants to knit him one of her original Flying Spaghetti Monster ornaments, although it might be a bit late for this holiday.

Hmm, not just one, er, surprise? That is a surprise indeed! I was thinking there was only going to be one.

Actually there were originally going to be five, but a couple of the books were a bit thin, so we shuffled around the content to be a bit more logical as well as making the books a mite more substantial.

I think the design and business books are a bit smaller, but I think both of the programming books are north of 400 pages, so there's a lot of content.
