You get 19 feet 9 inches of receipt!
BB had a MAG 17" flatscreen LCD monitor with built-in speakers going for the bargain (for a 17" LCD that is) price of $299.99, so I figured that'd be a perfect use for the 460 Best Buy tickets I have now. Thankfully we bought the monitor late on a Thursday night and there weren't many people there. Also we got a register manned by a couple of 16 year-old boys who thought our ability to get a free monitor was the coolest thing they'd ever seen.
The longest receipt in the picture is the actual product receipt. The slightly-smaller receipt is the rebate-receipt. And the smallest one is the actual rebate form.
Yes that's right. The monitor also came with a $70 product rebate. That means not only did I pay for a monitor with Best Buy Bucks, but I'm gonna get a check for $70 for doing it!
The only place where we ran into difficulty was on the price. Since you can use a max of $300 Best Buy Bux and the monitor was $299.99, we were a penny short. We could simply use 299 of the BBBs, but the register-guys insisted that it would ruin the spirit of the purchase. Thankfully, BB had a pile of public-domain Halloween DVDs (including Dementia 13 and The Little Shop of Horrors mentioned in an earlier entry, so get 'em) for the bargain price of 85 cents each, so I tossed one of those into the mix to get the price to $300.84.
I found an interesting wrinkle, though. I fully expected to pay about $24 for sales tax, but the way that they structured the purchase the BBBs are taken from the price of the individual items rather than the final purchase price. That means that my purchase ended up only taking tax on the 84 cents.
In short I ended up getting an LCD monitor and a cheapo DVD for 90 cents. Or -$69.10 if you take the rebate into account.
I rule!
2 1/2 year-olds and Halloween are a good mix. Maggie's bouncing off the walls this morning. She popped in the office this morning to ask me to play her newest video (the original Disney's Peter Pan, not the apparently creepy new live-action one). While I was turning on the video, I asked if she knew what day it was. She thought for a minute and then said "Trick or treat day?" I affirmed her suspicions, but told her that we couldn't do the costume thing until it was dark. She looked out on the porch, pointed out that since it was cloudy that "it's dark!"
I explained that we have to wait until it's actually dark before we can go. She then pointed down the stairs to the laundry room and said "It's dark down there!"
So I guess it's okay to go trick-or-treating as long as you restrict it to the laundry room.
