Oooh I'm trendy again

Okay, not really.

I bought a Zune. Specifically one of those version 1.0 30-gig Zunes that Woot was dumping for $100 yesterday. I'm not planning on replacing the PocketPC-phone-thingy that I currently use for audiobooks when I'm out, mainly because a 2-gig flash-card will easily hold an unabridged audiobook, and my little pocketpc case has a little slot for an extra card, so I'm never in danger of going un-entertained for more than the time it takes to swap out the flash-card.

I actually bought it for the car. When we go on long car-trips, we typically drag along the DVD-TV thingy from her room so that Maggie doesn't get bored. It works just fine (and Maggie's a VERY good traveler as long as she's got something to watch) but the player is an old tube-type and is pretty unruly, especially when it comes to swapping out discs. I figure with the Zune I can just rip-and-upload a dozen hours of cartoons and some music on it, and the kiddo will be happy.

And is there something particularly captivating about seeing things on tiny screens? A few months ago we were at our local Apple store. They had some iPods playing the trailer for the "Cars" movie, and Maggie thought it was the coolest thing ever, even though the screen was smaller than a business card.

Well, now we have our own smaller-than-a-business-card screen. I guess we'll see how long it takes before the novelty wears off.

My parents just used to throw half-empty whiskey bottles at me if I acted up during long car rides.

Haha, yeah I had a similar experience in long car rides. Kids do seem to like the tiny screens.

psh. When I went on long car trips with my parents, my parents would go "shut up, and go to sleep!" :).
